Miranda served as Chair of the Board of Directors of Waterstones from 2011-2016, having been appointed by Alexander Mamut when he bought the company from HMV, shortly after James Daunt was appointed CEO.

Miranda worked closely with James through his remarkable five-year transformation of Waterstones, during which time he successfully fended off the perceived threat of e-readers and digital book distribution, restored the entire Waterstones store and book distribution network, reinvigorated the art and craft of bookselling in the UK, and turned the company from a loss maker to significant profitability.

Miranda also served as a non-executive director on the board of M&S from 2012 to 2018, through the tenure of Marc Bolland and the appointment of Steve Rowe as CEO.
