INSTITUTE FOR GOVERNMENT

Miranda was appointed as a Trustee of the Institute for Government (IfG) shortly after it was established in 2008. The Institute has established a remarkable reputation in the UK and internationally for the calibre and independence of its analysis, research and commentary. The IfG’s primary focus is on the key challenges facing Whitehall and Westminster, on improving the machinery of government, and on reinforcing the professional expertise of ministers, senior politicians and senior civil servants.

Miranda’s role on the Board has been to mentor successive Directors of the Institute, and to support the governance of the Institute itself.

FOREIGN AND COMMONWEALTH OFFICE

Miranda served as Lead Non Executive Director at the FCO from March 2017 to June 2020. In that capacity she worked closely with the Permanent Secretary of the FCO on a range of strategic and leadership challenges facing the organisation. Miranda also worked with the network of Lead NEDs to encourage more cross-departmental and joined up approaches to strategic and operating challenges in government, and better financial and reporting accountability.

Miranda was an active member of the challenge panel reviewing the Cabinet Office’s report on Lessons Learned from the delivery of Phase One of Brexit.

She also led the Tailored Review of the British Council for the FCO in 2020.
